SPEEDBOAT @ NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM, GREENWICH

An exquisite masterclass in design and fabrication, like a suit of armour fixed in time. Designed and built in less than ten weeks by Hubert Scott-Paine in his workshops in 1933 to challenge for the Harmsworth Trophy. It is a wonderful reference when designing or making anything,

'The attention to detail is evident in the thousands of duralumin countersunk screws with the slots all in line with the water or air flow'

'The result was revolutionary, with stringers of metal-reinforced wood and aluminium cladding'

Unit 15 is not responsible for the bizarre 1980's style disco stand on which it sits
